Professional Memberships: I'm a proud member of the following organizations: The Interior Design Society, and the National Kitchen and Bath Association, as they hold their members to a high standard of ethics and practices within the industry. Continuing education is also the key in being able to offer the best services to my clients. I'm proud to share I recently secured my CAPS certification, (Certified Aging in Place Specialist), as I recognized the expanded need to help my Boomer generation clients, and beyond, enjoy the benefits of adapting their homes to fit their next chapter in life.
To-The-Trade: Trade privileges allow me to bring amazing design sources and solutions to client projects. I've been attending the bi-annual High Point Furniture Market for almost seventeen years. You can imagine the thrill and honor it was to be selected among the eight, inaugural Style Spotters in 2011! I also periodically head to Atlanta to explore the Americas Mart and AAC - the Atlanta Decorative Arts Center.
Writing and Articles: Writing has become a second career where I share my passion about interiors. Hooker Furniture Corporation asked me to come on board as one of their “Experience Your Home" blog contributors and it provides me with a catalyst for inspiration as I cull through their line to showcase ways to incorporate products into consumers' homes. I hope you'll follow the posts!
Industry Recognition: Most recently, I was honored to be included among the Top 200 Influencers in the Home Design Industry by FIXR. They determined influencers to be: "The people at the very forefront of the design world who are dictating colors, materials, designs, and style that shape the way we live and work in our homes and offices."
Service Recognition: In 2015 and 2017, Wanda S. Horton Interior Design was awarded "Best of Houzz" for Customer Satisfaction by Houzz, the leading platform for home remodeling and design. Our 20 year-old-company was chose by more than 25 million monthly unique users that comprise the Houzz community from among more than 50,000 active home building, remodeling and design industry professionals. Thank you to our clients and vendors for recognizing us with this industry distinction.
Community Shelter Project: Giving back to the community means making an impact in ways both big and small. As an interior designer, when I experienced the difference I've made in my clients' surroundings, it tugged at my heart to offer options for a better lifestyle for the residents of my local community shelter. Fresh coats of paint were partially funded by my "Giving For Gallons" campaign. I've worked with vendors, both nationally and locally to donate: furnishings, art, cabinets, a new kitchen counter, tile for the men's bathroom and carpet for the day room. (Thank you to: Sunbrella, TLS by Design, Charles Luck Stone, Tile Collection, Warner's Rugs and Carpet, Snug Furniture, Fiber Services and all of the volunteers and donors who've made this hope a reality.)
It's still a journey and a work-in-progress, as funds are always tight. In the past couple of years, a lot of great things have happened and if you find it in your capacity to do so, any donation would be most welcome to the Union County Community Shelter. To have someone tell you how tough it can be on the outer world, but when they arrive at the shelter, the layers of stress peel away and they feel human, again . . . well, that's what home is all about.
Pet Rescue: Having adopted three rescue dachshunds makes me ever aware of supporting the organizations and dedicated people who bring new life to our fur friends. While I don't exclusively promote any one in particular, I encourage you to consider providing a loving and caring home or to foster one of these deserving lives. Please support your local shelter or group!
