Making The Bed

There’s nothing better than getting into a beautifully made bed at the end of the day.

Repetitive patterns make a calming bedroom. - Wanda S. Horton Interior Design

Making the bed first thing in the morning has become my daily ritual. Even before that first cup of coffee propels me into the world, it's a time of quiet to gather my thoughts and myself.

There's something restorative about running my hands over soft sheets, smoothing out the wrinkles of sleep, and plumping flattened pillows back to their fluffier state. It's when I begin to think of the day to come and plan for the day's return. It's when I stop to say "thank you" for having this home, this place of peace. To start life anew.

It all begins with making the bed.

"When everything is feeling overwhelming, make your bed.
When you're not feeling in love with your body, eat a nutritious meal.
When your head is full of thoughts, write them down.
When your body is feeling tight and stressed, or you're feeling anxious, take a walk.
When something is on your heart, speak the words.
When the dream is always with you, take a small step.
Sometimes a simple action can help you reset. It can move the energy and change the mood. It can help you see something a little differently; it can feel like an exhale.
And when things are a little hard, there's nothing better than getting into a beautifully made bed at the end of the day."
